Hi, I'm Shawn James. I am a passionate outdoorsman living the life of my dreams in a log cabin that I built by myself in the Canadian wilderness. Join me and my golden retriever, Cali and listen to the sounds of the forest in this relaxing wilderness setting. I prefer to keep my talking to a minimum and let the natural sounds of nature make you feel as though you are there with me.

Building a Chicken Run with a Breezeway to a Stone Henhouse (coop)

For reasons you'll see in a future video, I sloped the roof on the stone chicken coop towards the outdoor run, but with the heavy snowfall we receive each winter, the snow load would crush the roof trusses and wire screening on the top of the run. To overcome this, I built a heavy duty breezeway between the henhouse and the run and now the chickens have decided that's their favorite place to ha...

I used logs, branches and leaves from the trees I cut down to create wood chips, compost and hugelkultur beds and then planted fruit trees, berry bushes and annual vegetables. Cali and I travel to Algonquin Park to trout fish, canoe and camp with Jiom and Ted Baird. The first day is hot and sunny but that changes over night and the second day brings hail and rain. The garden is where I express my creativity and appreciation to the land that sustains us. It's where I found solace and science as a child. The woods as well. Without them I could not have survived long enough to raise a happy small family that brings abundant joy and all the love I'll ever need. Your home and gardens are a testament to your hard work and determination to provide for yourself and your family! Absolutely doable if one is willing put in the time, stay on task, and be grateful for all the things that give meaning to life. Your skill recording all your efforts is a gift to all watching. Thank-you for sharing the inspired content it provides❤.
